Wildberries says banks deny foreign pay systems’ rights breach

MOSCOW, Aug 31 (PRIME) -- The Russian banking community has rejected the accusations of the foreign payment systems about violation by online retailer Wildberries of their rules, the seller said on Tuesday in a statement.

“Despite the pressure, the banks insist that the law does not ban introduction of discounts on the Russian payment tools. We’re in constant dialogue with the banking community, provide it with the necessary consultation and legal support,” Wildberries said.

The banks said the matter is about discounts for using the national payment systems, not about new commissions.

Wildberries reiterated that the company equipped Russians with an option to choose more convenient payment systems that allow them to pay less.

“Similar practice exists in many foreign countries. If we speak about discrimination of users, mentioned by the international payment systems, isn’t it discrimination that the Russian users have no access to the same terms from the Western payment systems available for the citizens of other countries, and don’t we see discrimination of the Russian business for which tariffs of the payment systems are much higher than on the other markets?” Wildberries said.

Over the past two weeks, since Wildberries offered a 2% discount on payments via the national payment systems, the volume of payments via the Mir card has soared by 62%, via SberPay by 440%, and via the Faster Payments System by 180%.
